Tongan judoka Paula Monta is set to represent Tonga in judo at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, continuing a strong run of international results for Tonga on the Oceania stage.

Monta, who competes in the Senior Men’s +100kg division, recently secured a silver medal at the 2026 Oceania Open in Mandurah, Australia. The result followed his bronze medal performance at the 2026 Oceania Championships in Melbourne, highlighting his continued progress and potential on the international stage.

According to Matangi Tonga, Monta was the only athlete representing Tonga at the Oceania Open, where he faced strong opposition from athletes representing the United Kingdom, Indonesia and Australia. Following his silver medal performance, it was reported that Monta will next represent Tonga at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The Oceania Judo Union congratulates Paula Monta, Tonga Judo, TASANOC, and the wider Tongan judo community, and looks forward to seeing Tonga represented on the Commonwealth Games stage in Glasgow.

Monta’s selection adds to the growing presence of Oceania judoka preparing for Glasgow 2026, with athletes from across the region continuing to be named for the Games.
