Team Samoa has announced the selection of Olympian Peniamina “Benjamin” Percival to represent Samoa in judo at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Percival, who is listed by the International Judo Federation in the Men’s -81kg category, brings significant international experience to the Samoan team. He represented Samoa at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and has continued to be an important figure in the development and promotion of judo across the Pacific.

Team Samoa announced its Glasgow 2026 squad through its official Instagram channels, with Percival named as Samoa’s judo representative and William Tai Tin listed as Team Manager.

Percival’s selection continues his long association with international judo and Oceania competition. According to the IJF, he competed at the 2026 Oceania Senior Championships in Melbourne in the Men’s -81kg category, while his IJF profile also records a 7th place finish at the 2019 Hong Kong Asian Open among his international results.

Beyond competition, Percival has become a strong advocate for the growth of judo in Samoa. In recent years, he has worked to rebuild the sport locally, including through the establishment of a dojo in Samoa and participation in the IJF Academy pathway. His efforts reflect a broader commitment to developing opportunities for young judoka and strengthening the sport across the Pacific region.

The Oceania Judo Union congratulates Peniamina Percival, Team Samoa, the Samoa Association of Sport and National Olympic Committee, and the wider Samoan judo community on this selection.

With Australia, New Zealand and Samoa now confirming judo athletes for Glasgow 2026, Oceania’s presence at the Commonwealth Games continues to build, highlighting the strength, diversity and potential of judo across the region.
